Evidence Supervisor

They understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, and maintaining a meticulous chain of custody within a law enforcement environment. This person is organized, attentive to detail, and naturally inclined toward process improvement, while also being comfortable collaborating with officers, detectives, and other City staff. Examples of Duties

Supervise daily operations of the Evidence Unit, ensuring proper handling, processing, and filing of evidence.
Maintain strict chain-of-custody standards, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance with policy, accreditation, and statutory requirements.
Review staff work for quality, completeness, and adherence to procedures.
Coordinate transfers, releases, and disposals of evidence for citizens, courts, and law enforcement personnel.
Ensure secure storage, space availability, and correct placement of sensitive or high-value evidence.
Oversee and maintain accurate records, logs, and reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual).
Train new employees and help develop improvements to evidence-handling procedures.
Serve as a resource to internal staff, officers, detectives, and the public regarding the disposition of property in police custody.
Experience and Training
- Graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.
- Minimum of two (2) years working with the public and at least one (1) year in a similar job-related field. One (1) year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is preferred. Additional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
