The Executive Director of Pipeline and Outreach Programs will provide management and leadership over specialized programs for students interested in attending graduate school and pursuing a doctoral degree, including those that target low income, first generation and underrepresented students. This role involves specifically developing, implementing, leading, and advancing strategies that develop and administer diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs. This role will formally report to the Executive Assistant Dean with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Programs and Department Chair. The incumbent is responsible for achieving strategic organizational objectives, establishes unit goals and measurable metrics and functions with a high degree of autonomy. They are responsible for the administration of a large Department of Education grant and other UCOP funding that focuses on DEI priorities for prospective graduate students. Manages, through subordinate managers and staff the development, coordination and implementation of initiatives and programs. Initiatives and programs are based on extensive research and substantial understanding of the needs of undergraduate students, including first generation and underrepresented students, in the United States and specifically to the population in the California educational system. There are research and teaching activities associated with this position, but the primary responsibilities are managerial. The programs are important to the overall teaching and research missions of the University. This role will lead engagement to advance, integrate and embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of the graduate student community. The Executive Director must have a doctoral degree, research experience, teaching experience, and demonstrated experience in planning and implementing educational programs designed to increase the participation of students underrepresented in graduate education, demonstrated experience in proactive leadership, consultation, advising, and supporting systems, structures, policies, and processes that directly affect the DEI population of graduate students. The incumbent will facilitate dialogue and conversations about sensitive topics. They will conduct analyses of current structures, policies, systems, and data specifically for the DEI population. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of program evaluation, budgeting and supervision is essential. Experience working with community college students desired, as this is a focus of the grant. Serve as a member of the Graduate Diversity team at UC Davis that will aim to increase the diversity of applicants, admits and graduates of Graduate Studies by collaborating with external partners. Conduct research on graduate preparation, outreach and recruitment trends in graduate education that are evidence-based and represent best practices. Serve as a University of California, Davis representative on state and national working and advisory groups.
