Purpose Statement/Position Summary: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric healthcare, known for its best in-class marketing and communications function. We are seeking a strategic and visionary leader to fill the role of Executive Director of Strategic Marketing and Provider Engagement. This pivotal role will drive the strategic development, execution, and optimization of comprehensive marketing efforts, clinical marketing campaigns, service line marketing campaigns, brand promotion, agency management initiatives that align with the institution's ambitious growth and business objectives. As a key member of CHLA’s MarCom leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of the consumer decision journey, from awareness to loyalty, with a focus on increasing patient family and provider engagement as well as developing strategic partnerships for CHLA. Your responsibilities will include crafting and executing innovative, data-driven marketing campaigns that resonate with our diverse audiences—including patients, donors, referrers, and healthcare providers—while ensuring alignment with CHLA’s strategic goals.
In addition to marketing leadership, you will spearhead the development and management of a national and market-based pre-patient journey strategy to intercept parents of children with complex needs and help navigate them to CHLA. We seek a professional who approaches work with a game-changing attitude, has a deep understanding of the motivations and buying patterns of constituents and a desire to make a true impact on the organization while constantly evolving the team’s roles and capabilities to ensure the business goals are met.
At a high level you will be responsible for the following:- Lead the strategic development, execution, and optimization of marketing campaigns and clinical marketing - referral campaigns, ensuring alignment with CHLA’s growth objectives.
- Strategically allocate marketing resources to maximize impact, ROI, and donor engagement across diverse target audiences.
- Drive business growth by continuously monitoring, adapting, and enhancing campaign performance based on KPIs, while integrating insights from industry trends in healthcare, non-profits, academic medicine, and philanthropy.
Demonstrated ability to create strategic partnerships with media, consumer, non-profit organizations.
- Oversee and mentor the marketing strategy and teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence while evolving team roles and capabilities to meet CHLA's dynamic needs.
- Develop and sustain strong cross-functional partnerships with senior leaders, clinical teams, and business units, ensuring strategic alignment and leveraging insights to enhance future marketing and fundraising initiatives. You will be expected to partner closely within the department and with fellow leaders across the organization including the Chief Strategy Officer, VP Service Line Strategy & Operations, VP Physician Partnerships, Service Line Leadership, Chief Transformation Officer and CMO, CHLA Health Network and others. You will drive close collaboration to significantly advance CHLA’s growth goals and long-term plans.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:- 10+ years’ experience in driving successful marketing efforts in a matrixed organization.
- Academic Medicine Healthcare experience preferred, experience specific to pediatric academic medicine a plus.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of digital media, online advertising platforms & related metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically about the institution’s multi-faceted objectives and be able to effectively develop and implement marketing plans to successfully meet those objectives.
- Must be able to understand the motivations, buying patterns and psychographics for target audiences.
- Experience in Digital marketing a plus.
- Solid knowledge applying qualitative and quantitative research methodologies with deep understanding of digital methods and techniques for online marketing and lead generation.
- Fluent in data retrieval and analytics tools and methods (e.g., Google Analytics, etc.) for measuring ROI, prioritizing and growing adoption
- Demonstrated success in ground-up customer growth and engagement strategies, including building and managing customer acquisition strategies.
- Well-versed in marketing fundamentals including but not limited to: social media marketing, SEO/SEM, CRM, AB Testing, landing page optimization, customer segmentation, customer journey maps, etc. Ability to think creatively and strategically, developing innovative marketing approaches to drive results.
- Passion for pediatric healthcare and a commitment to the hospital's mission and values.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and managing relationships with external partners.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor's degree business, marketing, communications, design or related field required.
Master’s degree in communications, public affairs, marketing, or related field .
Pay Scale Information: CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
