Cook Shire Council is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Manager People and Performance to join our Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Based in beautiful Cooktown, this senior leadership role offers a unique opportunity to drive strategic initiatives, foster a positive workplace culture, and lead the Human Resources (HR) and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) teams to deliver organisational excellence.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will:

• Lead and manage HR and WHS strategies to attract, develop, and retain top talent.
• Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the ELT to ensure organisational goals align with best practices in workforce planning and employee engagement.
• Build positive relationships with unions and stakeholders to manage industrial relations effectively.
• Drive initiatives that enhance employee wellbeing and satisfaction.

What You'll Need

• Tertiary qualifications in HR, WHS, or a related field, with at least five years' experience in a similar leadership role.
• A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Queensland Local Government Act and Work Health and Safety Act.
• Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and deliver change management strategies.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
