Experienced Medical Biller and Coder

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Experienced Medical Billing and Coder to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Your expertise will help streamline revenue cycle management, improve claim acceptance rates, and support efficient patient account resolution. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality patient care through precise documentation and billing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret medical records, physician notes, and documentation to assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes.
  • Ensure all coding aligns with current coding standards, insurance guidelines, and healthcare regulations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to facilitate timely reimbursements.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies while maintaining compliance with privacy laws.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility before billing procedures commence.
  • Maintain detailed records of billing activities, coding adjustments, and correspondence related to patient accounts.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy for future claims.

Skills

  • Proficiency in medical billing processes combined with strong knowledge of medical terminology and records management.
  • Expertise in CPT coding, ICD-10 coding systems, DRG assignment, and ICD coding standards.
  • Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for claim submission and record keeping.
  • Solid understanding of medical office workflows, insurance protocols, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills for managing multiple claims simultaneously.

  • Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies.
  • Ensure the patient’s medical information is accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare bills and invoices, and document amounts due to medical procedures and services.
  • Collect and review referrals and pre-authorizations.
  • Monitor and record late payments.
  • Follow-up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Examine patient bills for accuracy and request any missing information.
  • Investigate and appeal denied claims.
  • Help patients develop patient payment plans.
  • Maintain billing software by updating rate change, cash spreadsheets, and current collection reports.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medical biller or similar role preferably in gastroenterology
  • Solid understanding of billing software and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Must work well under pressure, possess flexibility and have the ability & patience to adapt to unexpected last minute changes.
  • Experience in preparing and sending medical records to requesting providers, other facilities and insurance companies.
  • Experience in using platforms like Availity, EviCore, United Health Care (UHC), etc.
  • Experience in insurance verification of benefits (ie: co-pays, co-insurance, deductible amounts, etc.)

Pay: From $1.00 per hour
