Extended Day Teacher - Preschool Program

Job Summary
Join our vibrant preschool community as an Extended Day Teacher, where your enthusiasm and expertise will create a nurturing, engaging environment for young learners beyond the standard school hours. There are several different scheduling options available, from 5-6.5 hours per day (10am-4:30pm, 11:30am-4:30pm, and 11:30am-5pm). This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young children’s lives while working in a collaborative and supportive setting.

Responsibilities

  • ⬥ Supervision and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the school and the standards of West Virginia licensing.

⬥ Rotating Half Day classrooms from 10-11:30am, providing 30-minute breaks to those teachers.

⬥ Develop an appreciation for the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socioeconomic background.

⬥ Responding to each child with dignity and respect.

⬥ Fostering each child’s awareness of his/her role as an integral member of a group

⬥ Designing a learning environment and developmentally appropriate instruction in a variety of spaces.

⬥ Designing instruction that includes making healthy choices and the value of conversation during family-style meals

⬥ Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.

⬥ Attending all staff meetings.

⬥ Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspect of professional growth.

⬥ Working with the Preschool Director to keep one’s own personnel file up to date.

⬥ Being a team player with the staff as a whole and as a partner with your team teacher.

⬥ Assisting in the orientation and training of new staff members, especially your team teacher.

⬥ Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents.

⬥ Communicating concerns of parents as soon as possible to administration.

⬥ Attending events sponsored by the school.

Experience

  • Prior classroom experience working with preschool-aged children in daycare, childcare centers, private schools, or similar settings is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in early childhood education techniques such as lesson planning, classroom management, behavior management, and curriculum development.
  • Experience working with children who have special educational needs or require early intervention services is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with teaching physical education activities, literacy education strategies including tutoring or standardized testing preparation, and Montessori methods is a plus.
  • Proven ability to foster positive relationships with young learners through effective communication skills and nurturing approaches.
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles related to toddler care and preschool age groups enhances your ability to support diverse learning needs. Embark on a rewarding journey where your passion for teaching meets your commitment to nurturing the next generation of learners!

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
