Work Week: Monday–Friday and/or Tuesday-Saturday

Job Summary

The Welder will weld and cut metal pieces and products using flame-cutting, saw cutting and hand-welding equipment using skilled techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans details of work order procedures and gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
• Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
• Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting processes to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
• Prepares, assembles, and tack-welds parts and surfaces to be welded.
• Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
• Notifies the supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding, including their design, uses, maintenance, and repair.
• Ability to perform SMAW (stick or Arc), GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) welding processes for Mild Steel and Aluminum
• Basic understanding of design techniques and principles
• Ability to read and understand work instructions provided in written or verbal form.
• Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positions.
• Must have sufficient manual dexterity and stability for precision work.
• Must be able to see details at close range.
• Must be able to move throughout facilities and around machinery, including climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to grasp, hold, and handle items of various sizes and climb steps as needed.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, see, and hear sufficiently to safely operate machinery and follow instructions.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work outdoors and tolerate exposure to open field and greenhouse environments, including hot and cold conditions and walking on uneven surfaces.
