Farm Manager - Part Time - Household Manager

This is a dynamic, high-functioning farmhouse environment on 70 acres in Valley Mills, Texas. The household includes a variety of animals (horses, a Jersey cow, dogs, cats, and small pets), multiple outbuildings, and ongoing home projects tied to maintaining and improving a historic 1870s limestone property.

The family is looking for someone who takes ownership someone who walks in, sees what needs to be done, and handles it. This is not a task-by-task role. It’s about creating consistency, maintaining order, and helping the household run smoothly without constant direction.

This is a long-term opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, values independence, and thrives in an environment where no two days look exactly the same.

Location: Valley Mills, Texas (70-acre farmhouse)
Schedule: 20 hours/week | Typically 3–5 hours/day, Monday–Friday (flexible)
Compensation: $20–$30/hour (based on experience)

Core ResponsibilitiesAnimal Care (High Priority)

This is a core part of the role. You must be comfortable and confident around multiple animals.

  • Daily check-ins on horses, cow, and outdoor dogs
  • Monitor for injuries or issues and communicate or act quickly
  • Coordinate farrier visits and basic animal-related scheduling
  • Feeding, watering, and general oversight as needed
  • Light maintenance of enclosures (stall cleaning is minimal and infrequent)
  • Care for small pets when children are away (reptiles, guinea pigs, birds, etc.)
  • Grooming support (e.g., brushing cats)
  • Managing occasional indoor pet messes

Non-negotiables:

  • No cat allergies
  • Must genuinely enjoy being around animals

Household Reset & Cleaning

Maintain a clean, calm, and orderly home environment.

  • Daily reset of common areas (kitchen, living spaces, entryways)
  • Sweep and mop hardwood floors
  • Clean windows and glass doors (attention to detail is key)
  • Light bathroom upkeep
  • Kitchen reset (counters, dishes, surfaces)
  • Ongoing organization and upkeep
  • Deep cleaning as needed

Home Projects & Property Support

This home has ongoing projects. You will help create structure and momentum.

  • Coordinate small repairs and home projects
  • Schedule and manage vendors (plumbing, electrical, maintenance)
  • Support upkeep of property structures (barn, shed, garage, coop, etc.)
  • Assist with organization and preparation for renovation work
  • Help prioritize and move projects forward one at a time

You are not expected to be a contractor but you should be comfortable managing and supporting projects.

Meal & Kitchen Support

  • Light meal prep and simple cooking (oven-based meals, casseroles, prepped foods)
  • Set up dinner timing so meals are ready when the family returns
  • Maintain kitchen organization
  • Track and restock pantry essentials

Household Organization & Systems

  • Maintain order across the home
  • Track supplies and restocking needs
  • Follow and improve daily/weekly checklists
  • Light laundry support as needed

Weekend / Travel Support (Preferred)

  • Occasional weekend visits for pet care
  • Let dogs out and ensure basic needs are covered
  • Pet sitting or house sitting during travel (as needed)
