About the Role

The Field Chemist combines chemistry expertise with hands-on service support. Based in the Southern Gulf and Midwest Region, you will serve as a front-line partner to Milestone’s clients, ensuring they get the most out of their instrumentation. Your primary focus will be on chemistry applications: installing instruments, training clients, and guiding them through best practices in metals analysis and other analytical methods. At the same time, you’ll support the Service team with electromechanical maintenance and repairs as needed, giving you a well-rounded view of both the application and technical sides of our instruments.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the lab but is also motivated by client interaction, problem-solving, and travel. You’ll average four on-site client visits per week, building loyalty through expert support, clear communication, and a consultative approach.

Responsibilities:

Installations & Client Training

  • Lead instrument installations, including electromechanical setup, system calibration, and client onboarding.
  • Deliver application-focused training sessions to ensure client confidence and success in their workflows.
  • Provide clear, accessible instruction on both instrument operation and chemistry applications.

Chemistry Applications Support

  • Serve as the primary on-site chemistry resource for clients, guiding sample preparation, metals analysis, and other workflows.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear recommendations that address client challenges.
  • Partner with Product Specialists to deliver on-site demonstrations and application support.

Client Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through consultative, application-first support.
  • Promote Milestone’s milesCARE program and identify opportunities for consumables, accessories, service contracts, and upgrades.
  • Ensure client loyalty by proactively addressing needs and reinforcing Milestone’s reputation as a trusted partner.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Service team to support preventative maintenance and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Coordinate with Product Specialists and Sales to align on client needs and provide unified support.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and timely reporting.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Chemistry; or a Bachelor’s degree a related life science field.
  • Laboratory Experience: 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation and familiarity with chemistry applications. Experience with sample preparation or metals analysis preferred.
  • Electromechanical Aptitude: Electromechanical aptitude, and the ability to present technical information in a clear, concise manner. Prior experience in field service engineering or technical support for laboratory instrumentation a plus.
  • Travel: Ability to travel extensively overnight (up to 4 clients per week) throughout the territory.
  • Communication & Time Management: Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, ability to work independently
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office proficient, experience with Salesforce a plus
