The Role
JOB PURPOSE: The Mobile Service Engineer will be responsible for attending site breakdowns and carrying out fault-finding, diagnostics, servicing, and repairs on a variety of electric and diesel-powered access machines. These include cherry pickers, scissor lifts, and self-propelled booms, across both our hire fleet and customer-owned equipment, covering both short- and long-term contracts. This is a customer-focused engineering role, requiring the ability to build strong relationships through effective communication and professional service. The ideal candidate will be confident, technically skilled, and capable of working independently with a proactive approach, delivering high standards of service at all times. While primarily based at our depot workshop, the role will occasionally require travel to other depots or project sites, which may involve overnight stays depending on location and project scope. Repair • Ensure all site breakdowns are fully completed in accordance with the manufacturers specification and company policy. Ensure the machine is fully inspected for defects prior to completing the job. • Ensure all repairs once completed are fully updated to the customer on site, the person reporting the issue and to the Service desk co-ordinators • Inspect machines whilst attending site breakdowns/maintenance and raise concerns to the line manager. • Perform Routine onsite maintenance of the machines and highlight any issue to the line manager to prevent further failures and delays to the customers work Quality, Health and Safety • Maintains the highest level of safety during execution of tasks and that each task is done in conjunction with the relative Safe System Of Work ( SSOW ) and Risk assessment for the task in hand. • Ensure the work is executed in conjunction with site safety rules and company procedures at all times. • Handover machines to customers and familiarise customers with safe machine operation in accordance with company procedures • Ensure all waste is removed from the customer’s site and disposed of via the appropriate registered agent • Responsible for understanding and practicing appropriate safety procedures as follows: • Act as safely at work as you would elsewhere, if not more so • Use the tools available to you to maintain a safe environment • Participate in the safety training programme to educate yourself on hazards, safety practices, and rules • Communicate about unsafe practices and conditions • Always follow safety rules and regulations Customer Care • Act as an ambassador for the company, providing a high standard of customer service at all times. Relay appropriate customer queries to depot staff as required Administration • Complete all service re-calls as directed by the service desk, ensuring the manufacturers specification and procedures are followed. • Maintain appropriate level of van stock in alignment with the Service Manager/ Foreman. • Accurately completes all relevant work documentation which is assigned electronically through the Smart Phones, ensuring 100% compliance with data input at all times. • Obtain warranty instructions and ensure that all warranty claims are completed and passed for recovery • Support the Service Manager/ Foreman in the effective completion of field operations. • Maintain records covering workshop equipment and Light Goods Vehicle (LGV) servicing
Requirements
The chosen candidate will meet ALL the essential criteria below: ESSENTIAL • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering diploma, vocational qualification or above • Previous experience working on a range of complex machinery such as mobile access, heavy plant or other construction equipment o powered access equipment e.g. cherry pickers, scissor lifts, propelled booms and hoists. o diggers o drilling equipment o dumpers o excavators o forklifts o ground-care machinery o plant machinery o power generators o rollers o telehandlers • Good understanding of the principles of mechanical and / or electrical circuits and systems with the ability to read mechanical and / or electrical circuit diagrams and schematic drawings • Ability to methodically find fault, diagnose, repair and maintain a variety of powered machines • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel • Able to work to Health & Safety regulations and comply with all company policies and procedures • A valid driving license • Knowledgeable of the local geographical area DESIRABLE • Basic Knowledge of hydraulic systems with some mechanical and / or electrical maintenance experience • IPAF demonstrator license
