Overview
As a member of the Finance team, the Finance Assistant will provide essential administrative and bookkeeping support, ensuring accurate financial records.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for the timely processing of TeachBeyond worker and ministry affiliate expense claims
- Provide support for payroll and benefit deductions in coordination with People Services
- Check figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
- Debit, credit and total accounts in computer spreadsheets and databases, using specialized accounting software
- Coordinate and act as liaison between Finance and other services teams, i.e. Donor Services, People Services, Advancement, etc.
- Review employee history, support account information; make recommendations for change
- Investigate and correct accounting discrepancies and errors
- Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records
- Maintain knowledge of the financial aspects of new employees, change of assignment and terminations as they impact accounting, such as monthly deductions and transfers
- Identify and file documents according to company procedures
- Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers
- Operates computers programmed with accounting software to set up accounts -coordinated with Donor Services - for recording, storing and analyzing information
- Comply with federal, provincial and company policies, procedures, and regulations as it relates to employment accounting best practices
- Provide support as necessary during the annual audits and other projects assigned by management
- Participate and assist with new member and associate orientations

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or equivalent work/study experience desired
- Experience with accounting and payroll systems a plus
- Professional experience in a faith-based non-profit organization, cross-cultural mission experience a plus
Professional and Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge of Office 365 tools for day-to-day business, technological savvy with internet and other IT systems or willingness and ability to learn quickly
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and balance workload independently
- Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to listen attentively and to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels within the organization
- Must be a dependable team player with a positive attitude
- High degree of drive, initiative, and follow through
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently and be proactive with approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
