The Finance Manager provides financial support to the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Finance team in managing departmental activities related to the education and training of residents and fellows. Responsibilities include coordination, collaboration, and execution of financial processes for internal staff, residency program directors/coordinators, and external accounting departments. This individual will serve as a hands-on contributor, responsible for processing transactions, performing reconciliations, preparing reports, and supporting audits, while ensuring compliance with university, hospital, and regulatory requirements.
Accounting & Reporting
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including preparation and review of disbursement requests and deposit transmittals, in compliance with departmental procedures and University at Buffalo Foundation (UBF) guidelines.
- Oversee activity within the Strategic Information and Reporting (SIRI) system for GME accounts.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and financial data visualizations to monitor performance and trends.
- Provide variance analysis, fund balance projections, cash flow forecasts, and scenario modeling to support decision-making.
- Prepare and process accounting transactions, including journal entries, disbursements, payroll adjustments, fund transfers, invoices, and employee expense reports.
- Perform account reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support internal and external audits through data preparation, schedules, and auditor communication.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and contribute to documentation of financial procedures.
- Manage general ledger activities, including expense and revenue postings, billing transactions, account reconciliation, and preparation of the Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Profit & Loss statements.
- Reconcile revenue and expense funds and monitor balance sheets; coordinate with UBF accounting on adjustments in ACCUFUND Cloud Accounting Software and SIRI.
- Prepare ad hoc payroll cost reports, including self-funded health and dental plan analysis.
- Lead fiscal year-end closing activities, including fund reconciliations, general ledger review, and adjusting journal entries (AJEs).
- Oversee hospital and university residency/fellowship program accounts receivable and payable within the multi-hospital funding environment.
- Support federal compliance requirements for Buffalo VA Medical Center contracts, including funding schedules, accruals, and mandated reporting.
