We are inviting Expressions of Interest from highly experienced Finance Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support an upcoming potential national‑level initiative focused on strengthening financial management, audit standards and compliance across the nonprofit and community sectors.

This is a consultancy-based , part‑time engagement. Please note that submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee shortlisting or a call‑back , as progression is subject to project award and final scope confirmation.


About the Role

The Finance SME will provide specialised expertise in nonprofit financial management, audit processes and SCOPA-related compliance. The consultant will contribute to the development of financial frameworks, capability‑building interventions and advisory support to strengthen sector‑wide financial governance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert financial input into the development of audit frameworks, classification criteria and assessment tools.
  • Ensure all financial components align with SCOPA requirements, regulatory expectations and sector best practices.
  • Support audits and assessments by providing technical clarification on financial compliance matters.
  • Analyse financial findings, identify capability gaps and recommend improvements for NPO financial performance.
  • Develop and deliver financial capacity‑building content, including workshops, tools and training materials.
  • Advise NPOs on budgeting, planning, sustainability, reporting and core financial management practices.
  • Collaborate with SMEs in Quality & Audit, Policy, Regulatory and other workstreams to ensure cohesive programme outputs.
  • Monitor financial regulatory changes and provide updated guidance as needed.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on emerging financial trends or issues affecting the sector.


Ideal Consultant Profile

  • Strong expertise in nonprofit financial management, accounting or auditing.
  • Solid understanding of SCOPA requirements and financial regulations relevant to NPOs.
  • Ability to assess financial information, identify compliance gaps and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Experience delivering financial training or advisory support to nonprofits or public‑sector entities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong judgment and analytical capability.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working with cross‑functional SME teams.
  • Structured, proactive and committed to evidence‑based financial guidance.
