Financial Aid Counselor

This position oversees the Pell grant, federal work study, packaging, reconciliation, and the North Carolina Need Based Scholarship. Meeting with families and students is a vital part of this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary contact for new and returning students and families as they understand the financial aid process in supporting student financial obligations to the College.
  • Determines grant eligibility, certification, origination, reconciliation, and disbursement of federal and state aid.
  • Oversees and packages special programs for transfer students.
  • Requires the individual to be a resource for policy and compliance questions.
  • Must be available to work/present at events supporting admissions recruiting and student financial literacy which requires a proficiency/comfortable level with public speaking.
  • Oversees student Title IV financial aid eligibility including Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Completes verification and resolves c-codes.
  • Provides leadership and/or support for required external reporting to governing agencies.

Other Responsibilities:

  • The Financial Aid Counselor Must be available to work/present at events supporting admissions recruiting and student financial literacy which requires a proficiency/comfortable level with public speaking as assigned by the Director.

Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • A solid background in organizational and data systems management is preferred.
  • Experience with PowerFAIDS is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Must also feel comfortable and confident when speaking publicly to large crowds.
  • Experience with COD and understands reconciliation of Title IV funds.
  • Knowledge of the State Grant portal and certification/disbursement of state funds.
  • Understands policies related to verification and c-code resolution.
