AGENCY OVERVIEW
Community Living Alternatives, Inc. (CLA) is a private, non-profit that has been providing services to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities for over forty-five years in the Denver metro area. Our mission is to enhance the life of each person with intellectual/developmental disabilities towards fulfillment of their life goals through choice and support in homes, employment and community activities.
The Finance Director would oversee an annual budget of approximately $4.1 million.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Oversee and manage the organization’s accounting systems, financial records, and reporting processes. Supervise accounting staff, ensure accurate financial data collection and reporting, maintain compliance with applicable regulations, and manage benefits for People Receiving Services (PRS).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Supervision
A. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of the Accounting Assistant, and other accounting staff.
B. Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, personal needs monitoring for PRS, and financial documentation and filing.
II. Billing—Medicaid, State SLS, Mill Levy, Private Pay, Case Management Agencies
A. Compile billing information from staff.
B. Submit billing claims accurately and on schedule.
C. Reconcile payments and resolve discrepancies.
III. Payroll
Enter and manage payroll data to ensure accurate processing and distribution of bi-weekly payroll.
IV. Financial Statements
A. Prepare monthly financial reports including Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and supporting reports.
B. Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to the Executive Director.
C. Maintain financial records for bookkeeping, auditing, and reporting purposes.
V. Benefits Management for PRS
A. Assist PRS in obtaining and maintaining benefits such as Medicaid, Medicare, SSDI, SSI, Veteran’s Administration, and Railroad Retirement.
B. Complete and monitor annual rent/heat rebate forms when applicable.
VI. Reporting to the Board of Directors
A. Develop the annual organizational budget with the assistance of the Executive Director.
B. Present the proposed budget to the Board of Directors.
C. Prepare and submit financial, statistical, and narrative reports for board and committee meetings.
D. Complete annual corporate filings, including Registered Agent and Charitable Organization licensing documentation, with the Secretary of State.
VII. Financial Compliance
A. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including GAAP standards.
B. Maintain compliance with financial requirements outlined in organizational contracts.
C. Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals to ensure timely audits, filings, and financial reporting.
D. Complete required filings such as property tax forms.
VIII. Financial Oversight
A. Protect organizational assets through effective internal controls and financial oversight.
B. Monitor banking activities and organizational cash flow.
C. Complete bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
D. Identify financial risks and provide recommendations to address potential issues.
IX. Insurance Administration
A. Complete Workers’ Compensation cost containment reports and annual plan reports as required.
B. Serve as the primary contact for insurance providers.
C. Manage documentation and submissions for annual insurance renewals.
X. Employee Retirement Plan
A. Meet with the Executive Director and investment advisor to review retirement fund options and provide recommendations to the Board of Directors.
B. Educate new employees on the organization’s retirement benefits.
C. Assist in administering the retirement plan.
D. Submit payroll contributions to the retirement plan.
E. Prepare annual filings, including Form 5500.
XI. Additional Responsibilities
A. Support strategic financial planning and organizational initiatives.
B. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and other meetings as requested by the
Executive Director.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
