Financial Controller (Mid–Senior) — Job Description
Summary
- Lead the month‑end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and control environment for the business; partner with leadership to drive financial performance, compliance, and process improvements.
Core responsibilities
- Financial reporting: Prepare and oversee timely monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory and management financial statements; ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger.
- Month‑end close: Own end‑to‑end month‑end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet reviews.
- Budgeting & forecasting: Lead annual budgeting and periodic reforecast cycles; prepare variance analysis and scenario modelling to inform leadership decisions.
- Controls & compliance: Design, document, and enforce internal controls (SOX where applicable); support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
- Cash & working capital management: Monitor cash flow, manage bank relationships, optimize working capital (AR, AP, inventory), and oversee treasury activities where applicable.
- Financial analysis & business partnering: Provide actionable analysis on P&L drivers, cost control initiatives, margin improvement, and capital expenditure requests; partner with operations and functional leaders.
- Policy & process improvement: Develop and implement accounting policies, streamline financial processes, and drive automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Team leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff; set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and build a high‑performing finance team.
- Systems & ERP: Maintain and optimize ERP finance modules, lead finance system implementations or upgrades, and ensure data integrity across systems.
- Tax & statutory: Coordinate statutory accounts preparation, tax provision support, and liaise with external advisors for compliance.
- Ad hoc projects: Lead or support M&A integrations, business case modelling, cost transformation projects, and finance transformation initiatives.
Typical duties (day‑to‑day)
- Oversee daily accounting operations and resolve complex accounting issues.
- Drive month‑end close checklist and sign off key reconciliations.
- Prepare management packs and present financial results to senior leadership.
- Review and approve journal entries, intercompany reconciliations, and balance sheet movements.
- Monitor cash position and forecast short‑term liquidity needs.
- Coach accounting team, allocate workload, and ensure training/coverage.
- Liaise with auditors and provide necessary schedules/documentation.
- Implement process improvements and automation opportunities (e.g., RPA, ERP features).
- Evaluate internal control gaps and remediate deficiencies.
- Support strategic initiatives with financial modelling and scenario analysis.
Required qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional qualification required (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Experience: 5–8+ years progressive accounting/finance experience with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or controller‑type role; experience in mid‑market or multi‑entity environments preferred.
- Technical skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP or IFRS (specify local standard), consolidated financial reporting, tax provision basics, and intercompany accounting.
- Systems: Proven experience with ERP/financial systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Sage) and advanced Excel skills; exposure to BI/FP&A tools a plus.
- Controls: Experience with SOX/controls framework, audit readiness, and implementing internal controls.
- Soft skills: Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience managing multi‑entity consolidations, foreign currency accounting, or international tax considerations.
- Prior exposure to M&A, integrations, or finance transformation projects.
- Familiarity with treasury operations and banking covenants.
- Advanced certifications or MBA.
Working conditions
- Office or hybrid environment; standard business hours with occasional extended hours during close, audits, or critical projects.
- May require limited travel for group reporting, audits, or integrations.

Pay: QAR321.15 - QAR689.10 per hour
