Under supervision of the Fire Chief and Fire Captain, can perform the following duties: Drive and operate the fire engine, fight fires, perform emergency medical and rescue work, participate in fire inspections, public education, provide station maintenance, conduct routine vehicle maintenance, participate in training activities; and other duties as required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Respond to all types of fires, medical aids and car accidents, to provide the proper treatment or service as needed.

Participate in drills and training exercises in all phases of firefighting.

Maintain the apparatus and all its equipment.

Abide with laws, rules, regulations and the operational procedures that affect the La Jolla Reservation Fire Department.

Be accountable for all equipment on engines and the maintenance of the apparatus and keep records of all repairs, fuel and mileage logs.

Drive and operate the engine and its hydraulic controls at a fire incident but may perform other duties upon order of the incident commander.

Upon approval of the respective Fire Captain, Engineers are expected to perform the duties of Fire Captain when the level of manpower so requires.

Collateral duties may be in the areas of fire prevention, public education, inspection, inventory, training or other aspects of the fire suppression/prevention programs.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Firefighter Academy Graduate

Firefighter 1 certification

Five years as a firefighter with an organized, local government agency

CDL (class B commercial or C with Firefighter endorsement)

EMT / CPR

Driver Operator 1A and 1B

ICS 100, 200, 300,

Ability to act as Fire Captain when called upon

Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,800.00 per year
