Summary:
Responsible for firefighter operations to respond on aircraft emergencies, structural fires, and vehicles accidents. Analyze variables and choose the most effective action preserving life, property and the organization assets. Handles novel and diverse work problems and emergencies on a daily basis. Manages conflicts and make effective decisions under pressure events. Adapts to any situation strictly complying with the Airport Emergency Plan. Provide technical advice about fire safety and assist in educating about airport fire safety.
Essential Functions:
-
Protects the lives and property of the visitors, passengers, property owners and all personnel working on the AOA to include surrounding areas and business of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

Performs fire suppression, property conservation, salvage, overhaul, forcible entry, ventilation, ladder operations, and use of cutting saws and specialized tools.

Performs operations of emergency response, firefighting, control of fuel spills, operations of rapid intervention, technical rescue and HAZMAT operations.

Drives fire apparatus, operate fire pumps, tools/equipment and water crafts.

Performs routine checks, test and inspections of department apparatus and equipment.

Administer First Aid acting as first responder on emergency medical events.

Responds to all emergency incidents at and near the airport in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Emergency Plan and in accordance with the National Incident Management System. Assumes command of incidents in the absence of a higher-ranking department officer.

Assists with recordkeeping at the conclusion of all incidents, as necessary.

Perform administrative duties, inspections, fire prevention activities, public education and provide training.

Performs fire safety inspections and grants Hot Work permits.

Dispatches all emergency calls; dispatches appropriate resources, monitors weather, emergency radio traffic and air traffic control frequency 24/7.

Operates dispatch radio communications and emergency alert system console.

Flushes and tests fire hydrants.

Participates in scene security and assist in maintaining a legal chain-of-custody at structures or aircraft emergencies events.

Executes any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualification Requirements:
-
High School Diploma and specialized Firefighter Certifications.
-
Aircraft Rescue Firefighter Certification.
-
General Firefighter Training.
-
Firefighter I and II State Certification.
-
Specialized Aircraft Operations Training.
-
HAZMAT.
-
First Responder 40 hours / Emergency Medical Responder 40 hours.
-
FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.
-
Driver License 5-III (8).
-
Two (2) years of experience on an organized fire department or branch.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Language skills in Spanish and English. Ability to read and understand instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write complex correspondence and make complex presentations of information, effectively, an individual or small groups of customers and other employees of the organization.

Customer Service Oriented.

Ability to deal with problems involving some variable in common situations.

Planning skills to inspect and prepare vehicles and equipment for daily operations.

Judgment and Decision Making to prioritize objectives on dangerous situations recognition.

Risk Assessment Analysis to identify possible hazards and to establish controls; identify scale of emergency and potential resources needed, knowing that all emergencies are unique and every scenario is different.
