At Sycuan Fire Department we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all, and we are looking for passionate individuals to join our firefighting team.Job Purpose: Suppresses fires, preserves life and property from the elements of disaster and renders medical care to sick and injuredJob Duties and Responsibilities: Participates in fire company activities including fire suppression, rescue, public assistance, fire investigation, fire prevention, pre-fire planning, fire company training, public education, and routine maintenance of apparatus, equipment and fire department facilitiesPerforms rescues, fire suppression, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, medical aid and any other duties related to the preservation of life and propertyMaintains basic knowledge of the duties of other personnel in the stationPerforms duties of Acting Officer-In Charge when directed and if qualifiedMaintains up-to-date knowledge in data and information necessary to perform dutiesInspects and tests ambulance equipmentCompletes appropriate medical reportsMaintains currency of all necessary certifications as requiredProvides patient care and transportation of patients to appropriate medical facilities as neededPerforms other duties as directed by the Fire CaptainJob Specifications: Education and Experience: Essential: High School Diploma or G.E.D.State of California Paramedic license in good standingSuccessful completion of standard internal firefighter written testSan Diego County Paramedic accreditation in good standingIn-house Physical Abilities Test, CPAT, or Biddle CertificateCA Driver's License in good standingBLS CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) CardsDesirable: Hazmat FRO1 year paramedic experienceFirefighter exempt Ca Driver's License in good standingState Firefighter I CertificationFirefighter experience Skills and Knowledge: Essential: Ability to pass annual BIA Pack Test to include donning a 45 pound hose pack (or equivalent) and walking a total of three (3) miles in 45 minutes or lessAbility to effectively communicate with department personnelAbility to execute operational and procedural changesAbility to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and assignmentsAbility to complete forms, documents and written reportsAbility to maintain professionalism and composureAbility to communicate effectively in the English languageAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to make sound judgmentsAbility to understand and follow verbal directives and written directionsAbility to accept constructive criticismWorking knowledge of word processing programsExcellent organizational skillsAbility to show up to work on timeDesirable: Supervisory/Managerial Accountability: Direct: NoneIndirect: None
