Position:
Fulltime Industrial Firefighter / EMT
Starting Salary: $79,500.00
Description:
24-hour shifts ( Modified Kelly shift)
6-person crews per shift
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- 18 years of age
- State Certified Firefighter II (copy of card or certificate for proof)
- Hazardous Materials NFPA 472
- EMT
- Valid Driver's License –will need to Pass Background Check (involving Criminal and Driving History)
- Successful physical fitness / agility testing / drug test
- 2 Years in the fire service
- Have a good understanding of math for making calculations (e.g. foam concentrations, water flows involving friction loss)
Desirable Qualifications:
- Fire Apparatus/Equipment Operator Certification
- Hazardous Materials Technician
- Confined Space Technician
- High Angle Rescue Technician
- EMTA OR PARAMEDIC
- Fire Instructor
- BLS or CPR Instructor
- Class “B” D.L. with Air Brake, and Tanker Endorsements (Must obtain within 6 mo. of hire)
Functions & Duties:
- Working extensively on Hazardous Materials operations, process unit firefighting & Incident Command
- Technical Rescue (Confined Space, High Angle)
- Medical emergencies
- Foam firefighting (calculations, applications, flows) in the petrochemical industry
- Ongoing Industrial Firefighter training
- Able to lift 100+ lbs. (ex:100' roll of 6” LDH)
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Work at heights of 250 feet or more
- Preventive maintenance on fire apparatus, buildings, and various types of fire equipment.
- Conduct inspections / maintenance along with repairs or removal on the Refinery fire water system such as fire hydrants and PIV's
- Ability to act without continuous supervision and exercise independent discretion while performing duties in a skillful manner, using sound judgement, based on accepted firefighting practices
- Daily and weekly fire water pump maintenance checks
- Shutting down water system's in the areas that are in need of repair
- Ability to read plot maps, process flowcharts and schematics
- Industrial Hygiene/Air Monitoring with devices such as 4 and 5 gas monitors, Dragger tubes
- Additional and continued on-site and off-site training including Pump and Driving, Extinguisher training for use and Maintenance for all types and sizes, SCBA's, Industrial Safety (Fire Watch, Hole Watch), Conducting Safety Audits, Confined Space and High Angle Rescue, River Response, Medical Emergency and Hazmat.
