Fleet Operations Manager

Horizon Disposal Services, a division of Mercer Group International of NJ, Inc., is seeking an experienced and results-driven Fleet Operations Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of our fleet operations. This role is responsible for managing a team of drivers, vehicle lifecycle, maintenance programs, compliance, safety initiatives, vendor relationships, and cost controls to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable fleet performance.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, data-driven, and skilled in leading teams while balancing operational efficiency with cost management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily fleet operations, including vehicle deployment, maintenance scheduling, and performance tracking.
  • Manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Monitor fleet KPIs, fuel usage, telematics data, and maintenance costs.
  • Develop and manage fleet budgets, cost-control strategies, and reporting.
  • Oversee vehicle acquisition, disposal, and lifecycle planning.
  • Implement safety programs and training to reduce accidents and liability exposure.
  • Supervise, hire, and mentor drivers, mechanics, and dispatch (as applicable).
  • Investigate accidents, manage claims processes, and ensure corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of fleet management or transportation operations experience
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance standards
  • Experience with fleet management software and telematics systems
  • Works well with a team
  • Proven budgeting and cost control experience
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational abilities

Preferred Skills

  • Waste Management Experience
  • Experience managing medium fleets (25+ vehicles)
  • Background in transportation, logistics, construction, utilities, or distribution industries

Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
