Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in the areas of non-profits and/or social services preferred.
  • Experience working in food service and/or grocery retail industry preferred.
  • Fluent in speaking and writing English.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Experience working with information technology to implement programs and reporting, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Requires the ability to work independently and with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills and initiative
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, on-time work ethic and exceptional attention to planning details.
  • Must exhibit cultural proficiency.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with no suspensions or restrictions and be insurable under the agency’s insurance.

Job Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drive Sierra Community House vehicles, including a large delivery truck, to manually transfer perishable and non-perishable food at a variety of donor locations including grocery stores, restaurants, and food drive locations (commercial driving license is not required). Additionally, manually transfer the donated food product from truck to warehouse.
  • Comply with all Washoe County Health Dept., Placer County Health Dept., and Nevada County Health Dept. requirements regarding food safety and handling, cleaning and sanitation, food storage, reporting all issues to the Manger, Director and/or Deputy Executive Director.
  • Assist manager and staff with preventative maintenance, documentation and upkeep of warehouse equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain certification and training to legally operate essential warehouse equipment – reach lift, electric pallet jack.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends as assigned.
  • Food Express
  • Pick up rescued food and donations from local grocery stores.
  • Receive and assist food donations dropped by volunteers and community members.
  • Pick up and drop off food drive barrels, as needed.
  • Receive purchased food deliveries, as needed.
  • Log all food rescue into Meal Connect database.
  • Warehouse/Inventory
  • Maintain proper warehouse organization, including labeling of storage areas; storage by food type; labeling of incoming food by type of food, type of donation (unsorted, TEFAP, etc.), received date, expiration date; timely receiving/unloading of deliveries; and safe/efficient flow and access to food items.
  • Maintain proper storage, rotation, and handling of product in accordance with Nevada Co Health Dept food safety, handling, and storage standards.
  • Maintain weekly perishable and non-perishable inventory tracking and reconciliation with the Program Manager.
  • Track, process, and report on data pertaining to food donations and purchases.
  • Coordinate determining weekly food out using First In First Out (FIFO) method, USDA MyPlate standards, and target pounds per household with Program Manager
  • Request purchase of food items from Program Manager as needed based on existing inventory to supplement perishable and nonperishable foods, always maintaining proper quantities of stock on hand.
  • Follow daily and weekly warehouse, vehicle, and equipment cleaning schedules as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Dispose of waste and recycling.
  • Food Distribution
  • Manually load truck with appropriate amounts of food for each distribution.
  • Manually load truck with necessary equipment on truck for each distribution.
  • Drive Sierra Community House vehicle to each distribution site.
  • Work with the Program Manager, Program Director and Program Coordinator to implement the annual Let’s Talk Turkey distribution.
  • Assist team with set-up at distribution, service delivery, and clean-up.
  • Assist co-workers in maintaining a welcoming and conflict-free environment amongst community members and volunteers at distribution.
  • Supervise volunteers, when necessary.
  • Other Related Duties
  • Attend all mandatory agency meetings.
  • Participate on committees as needed.
  • Complete all administrative paperwork requirements within a timely basis.
  • Input your schedule into your calendar and share the calendar with all agency appropriate staff.
  • Input accurate record of time, as worked, in ADP on a daily basis.
  • Transfer information from your calendar into your functional timesheet, if applicable. Functional timesheets are due to your supervisor at the end of every pay period.
  • Notify Volunteer Coordinator about the need for volunteer assistance and coordinate recruitment and training of volunteer.
  • Engage volunteers in office or program-based tasks to expand organizational capacity.
  • Attend the next Crisis Intervention Training after your employment begins, unless already taken.
  • Attend collaborative meetings as needed and share pertinent information.
  • Input case management data into the New Org database within 24 hours of contact and review entries for accuracy. All other New Org data entry needs to be input on a timely basis.
  • Provide direct support for Sierra Community House's 24-hour Community Helpline, including responding to emergency calls from law enforcement and hospitals, as required by FTE status.
  • Provide crisis intervention for community members through the Helpline and agency mainline, or walk-in, as needed.
  • Provide outreach and community education on Sierra Community House on an on-going basis.
  • Provide staff office coverage in all offices as assigned.
  • Participate in agency committee and attend events.
  • Attend professional development, as required.
