We are seeking a skilled and experienced Foreman – Paint & Polish to oversee and manage all painting and polishing activities within our joinery production facility. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of surface preparation, stain matching, PU polishing, spray painting, and other finishing techniques used in high-end carpentry and joinery products.
This role requires hands-on supervision of the polishing team, ensuring that all finishing works meet the desired aesthetic and quality standards as per client specifications and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Daily Operations
- Supervise a team of painters and polishers in the factory to ensure high-quality finishing works.
- Allocate daily tasks, monitor workforce productivity, and ensure adherence to production schedules.
- Ensure optimal use of materials, tools, and equipment in the paint and polish section.
Quality Control
- Inspect surfaces before, during, and after painting/polishing to ensure proper surface preparation and defect-free finishing.
- Ensure consistency in color, texture, and finish across all products.
- Conduct random quality checks and ensure rework is minimized.
Surface Preparation & Finishing
- Oversee proper sanding, filling, staining, sealing, and top-coating procedures.
- Supervise application of PU, lacquer, paint, veneer polish, melamine, and other finishing systems.
- Ensure proper drying times and curing processes are followed.
Material & Equipment Management
- Coordinate with the store and procurement teams to request paint, polish, consumables, and tools.
- Ensure safe storage and usage of chemicals and flammable materials in compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain spray booths, compressors, spray guns, and other equipment in good working condition.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the team follows all safety and environmental regulations, especially regarding handling of hazardous materials.
- Conduct toolbox talks and enforce the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to avoid safety hazards.
Team Training & Development
- Provide training and mentoring to junior polishers and painters.
- Evaluate team performance and recommend skills improvement or additional support where needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
- High School Certificate or Technical Diploma in Wood Finishing or related trade.
- Vocational training or certification in painting/polishing is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in a similar role within a carpentry/joinery or furniture manufacturing company.
- Strong hands-on experience with PU paint, veneer polish, wood stains, and other finishing systems.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of different types of paints, sealers, hardeners, and application methods (spray, brush, wipe, etc.).
- Understanding of drying/curing processes and environmental conditions affecting finishing quality.
- Ability to read and interpret finishing schedules and job cards.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Working Conditions:
- Based in the factory/production facility.
- Exposure to paints, solvents, and chemicals (appropriate PPE is mandatory).
- Requires standing for long periods and occasional overtime based on production deadlines.
