Location and Travel
This is a remote position; however, preference will be given to candidates located in Austin, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; Reno, NV; Grand Rapids, MI; or Las Vegas, NV.
This position may require occasional travel to the locations listed above for site visits, project meetings, and team collaboration.

Position Summary
The Fire and Plumbing Designer (F & P Designer) will be responsible for the design and coordination of fire protection and plumbing systems for data center and other mission-critical projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Revit-based design workflows and experience supporting all phases of design and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed designs and construction documents for fire protection and plumbing systems, including equipment layouts, piping, and riser diagrams.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and equipment sizing in compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, IBC, UPC, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams to ensure coordinated, integrated system designs.
  • Assist with design reviews, submittal evaluations, and field coordination during construction.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all project phases.
  • Support system evaluations, code analysis, and technical documentation for permitting and construction.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and organization using Revit, ensuring BIM standards are followed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and templates within the MEI design environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in plumbing and/or fire protection design, preferably within data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • EIT certification preferred but not required.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NFPA, ASPE, IBC, IMC, UPC).
  • Proficiency in Revit is required; experience with AutoCAD and BIM coordination tools is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases.
