Narrative/Justification for Instructor in Tourism and Hospitality Management:
Tourism and hospitality are vital to the Hampton Roads economy, and Norfolk State’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program is positioned for growth following the Boyd Gaming gift, which supports the development of a new Gaming course as well as a certificate and minor in Gaming and Hospitality. Student interest in these areas is strong, but the program lacks sufficient instructional capacity to cover new courses, support program expansion, and sustain community partnerships with the regional hospitality and gaming industries. An Instructor, in Tourism and Hospitality Management, will provide critical teaching coverage, expand applied learning opportunities, and strengthen industry engagement through internships, case projects, and field experiences. This role will also ensure the program maintains the depth needed for timely student graduation. By 2030, the position will be central to expanding the THM program, cultivating strong industry partnerships, and positioning the School of Business as a leader in workforce development for this rapidly growing sector.
