Job Summary
We are looking for a GC-MS Analyst/Chemist at our facility in Dubai to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GC-MS instruments for routine and advanced analytical testing, ensuring accurate identification and quantification of raw materials, fragrance ingredients and finished products according to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of samples using GC-MS (e.g., volatile compounds, essential oils, aroma chemicals, solvents)
- Develop, optimize, and validate GC-MS methods to improve accuracy, sensitivity, and run efficiency
- Interpret mass spectra, chromatograms, and fragmentation patterns for component identification
- Monitor instrument performance, conduct calibration, and run daily QC checks.
- Prepare standards, reagents, and sample dilutions with strict adherence to laboratory protocols
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of results, methods, and instrument parameters in LIMS or laboratory notebooks
- Prepare analytical reports and communicate findings to QC, R&D, and Production teams
- Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and internal SOPs
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on GC-MS instruments (column installation, injector maintenance, ion source cleaning)
- Troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate service visits when required.
- Maintain inventory of consumables and critical spares
- Perform method verification, system suitability tests, and instrument qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ)
- Ensure all tests are performed within specified timelines to support production requirements
- Follow all laboratory safety guidelines, chemical handling procedures, and waste disposal protocols.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience operating GC-MS (Agilent, Shimadzu, Thermo, or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field
- Strong understanding of gas chromatography principles and mass spectrometry
- Experience in fragrance, flavour, essential oils, cosmetics, or chemical manufacturing is an advantage
- Proficiency in MS data interpretation and library matching (NIST, Wiley, etc.)
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot analytical methods
- Knowledge of additional analytical techniques (GC-FID, HPLC, FTIR, Karl Fischer) is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team
- Good time management and ability to handle multiple tasks
