Guardian Litigation Group is one of the nation’s largest consumer-defense law firms, operating across 49 states and handling more than 10,000 active litigation matters at any given time. We combine high-volume consumer litigation defense, arbitration enforcement, and strategic settlement negotiation with a rapidly expanding technology and automation ecosystem.
We are undergoing a major organizational transformation and we are seeking a General Counsel who will serve as the firm’s primary defender, strategist, and litigator for all matters impacting the firm itself.
Position Overview
The General Counsel (GC) will serve as Guardian’s in-house litigator, responsible for protecting the firm’s legal, regulatory, and business interests. This is not a passive advisory role—this is an active, front-line litigation position for an attorney who is comfortable taking the fight directly to opponents, including:
- Professional plaintiffs
- Opportunistic litigators
- Bankruptcy trustees
- Regulators
- Vendor disputes
- Employment law matters
The GC will lead all internal litigation, regulatory responses, compliance challenges, and high-risk disputes involving the firm. This role requires an assertive, highly skilled litigator capable of moving fast, standing firm, and handling adversarial matters with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation & Defense
- Serve as lead counsel for all litigation involving the firm (defense, offensive actions, subpoenas, employment disputes, fee disputes, regulatory challenges, etc.).
- Directly respond to, and where strategic, aggressively challenge professional plaintiffs, trustees, and bad-faith claimants.
- Handle pre-litigation disputes, cease-and-desist issues, and demand letters targeting the firm.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Respond to state attorney general inquiries, regulatory communications, and administrative actions.
- Advise leadership on compliance across a multi-state law practice.
- Serve as point of contact for regulatory oversight and investigations.
- Ensure firm policies comply with bar rules, employment laws, and multi-jurisdictional practice standards.
Employment & HR Support
- Advise on employment law matters across more than 20 states.
- Support HR in discipline, terminations, wage/hour issues, and risk mitigation.
Corporate Governance & Contracts
- Draft, negotiate, and review contracts with vendors, partners, and financial institutions.
- Oversee risk management related to financing structures, SPVs, asset-based lending, and law-firm ethical compliance.
Strategic Leadership
- Advise executive leadership on firm-wide risk.
- Serve as a visible, forceful advocate for the firm’s interests in internal and external disputes.
- Engage with outside counsel when necessary, managing and supervising litigation strategy.

We are looking for a litigator first, advisor second.
