Raba Kistner is seeking a detailed-oriented, dependable Geotechnical Laboratory Technician in Training to join our Consultants team in the San Antonio, TX area. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for sampling, processing, and testing materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications, including proper documentation of testing results. These methods include American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Department of Transportation (DOT), US Corp of Engineers, etc. Other responsibilities include:
Qualifications
If no certifications are currently held, will be required to obtain at least one of the industry certifications as designated by supervisor with support of the firm, within six months of employment. Employment contingent upon meeting these requirements. Good oral and written communications skills, ability to read and understand procedures, specifications, instruction, labels, reports, etc. Must have some knowledge of basic math and science to analyze lab results.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stop, and talk. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (with or without assistance from others) to include, but not limited to, sample containers and equipment. Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts (spinning shafts, engines, lifts, etc.), toxic or caustic chemicals (including potential for chemical spills, etc.), fumes or airborne particles (painting, sanding, solvents, flying lint or dust particles, etc.), wet or humid conditions (not weather-related, such as greenhouse, carwash, etc.), risk of electrical shock (live electrical wires, equipment that retains power after shutoff), vibration (soil compactor, equipment that creates high vibration, etc.). Regularly work in outdoor weather conditions (exposure to outdoor heat, cold or inclement weather) .The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work may require out-of-town/overnight travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations.
