<Responsibilities>
- Oversee general ledger accounting, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and governmental accounting standards.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret complex financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports to support decision-making processes.
- Conduct account reconciliation procedures such as bank reconciliations, account analysis, and ledger reviews to maintain data integrity.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections while adhering to regulatory reporting requirements.
- Perform budget analysis, forecasting, and financial planning activities to support fiscal responsibility and strategic initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other regulatory frameworks relevant to public sector finance.
- Support internal audits and external reviews by providing necessary documentation, audit trail records, and financial data interpretation.
- Mentor junior staff members by providing guidance on technical accounting practices such as double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and account reconciliation procedures.
<Skills>
- Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards and practices including GAAP and specific regulations like LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) compliance.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or other financial management tools tailored for public sector use.
- Experience with technical accounting concepts including accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Familiarity with securities law as it pertains to government investments or bond issuance is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability in financial analysis, cash flow analysis, bank reconciliation, and budget management.
- Excellent skills in financial report writing and interpretation to communicate complex data clearly to stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor team members in best practices for account reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger management.
- Strong understanding of tax experience related to non-profit organizations or government entities is advantageous.
