Governmental Affairs Associate

Position Description:

The Governmental Affairs Associate will be the face of Lyte Fiber to city, county, and community leaders/officials. This job requires managing relationships with local officials, advocating for the organization's interests, and monitoring government policies and trends.

You’ll help shape public policy, respond to local issues, navigate local regulations, and build grassroots support for our infrastructure projects designed to expand high-speed and reliable connectivity. Lyte Fiber is a rapidly expanding company, and this is a fast-paced, high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of public service, advocacy, and strategic communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with city, county, and state officials and agencies.
  • Provide insights and feedback from the field to inform strategic decisions.
  • Represent the company at public hearings, council meetings, and civic events.
  • Collaborate internally to help navigate local permitting, regulatory, and other governmental processes.
  • Cultivate relationships with local organizations, chambers of commerce, neighborhood groups, and key stakeholders.
  • Draft policy briefs, presentations, talking points, and stakeholder communications.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting broadband deployment.
  • Assist with government grants, including drafting proposals, tracking opportunities, and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in government, political science, public policy, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working in government, government relations, public affairs or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of local government structures and decisionmaking processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate the organization’s positions clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to travel and attend evening/weekend events as needed (travel ~50% of time, primarily in Texas).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical demands include frequent driving, standing, walking, presenting, and occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs).
