About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):

The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.

INSPD has a dedicated team of human resources professionals working in many capacities, including director-level, generalists and specialists in each discipline of human resources. Role Overview:

The Indiana State Personnel Department (INSPD) is seeking a Human Resources Intern to join the agency for the summer of 2026. The intern will support a variety of projects, including but not limited to curating content and providing recommendations for New Employee Orientation and On-the-Job Training programs, auditing and analyzing I-9 compliance, editing computer-based trainings, and developing content for internal training purposes for the human resources function of state government. INSPD administers personnel policies, procedures, programs, and benefits for most state employees under the executive branch. Several of the major components within INSPD include generating fair practices, being changemakers with HR policies, and centering the individual needs of all state employees.


Salary Statement
:

The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.


A Day in the Life:

As a Human Resources Intern for the INSPD Learning and Development Division, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience with:

  • Drafting content and reviewing edits on computer-based trainings using Rise360 and Murf AI;
  • Assist with New Employee Orientation facilitation and management;
  • Auditing and analyzing I9 compliance records for an agency(ies);
  • Reviewing content embedded into the On-the-Job Training programs;
  • Receive professional development training such as networking, professional skills development and presenting;
  • Be paired with a mentor to enhance your knowledge of other parts of the agency and build your network.


What You'll Need for Success:

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
  • Academic work in related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
  • Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
  • Ability to conduct well-informed research
  • Ability to solve complex, critical problems
  • Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.


Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
