Job Description and Duties
Telework is available for this position; however, changes to the telework program are at the Agency’s discretion. Remote-centered employees may be required to report in person to one of the agency's multiple reporting locations, as determined by management, and may be required to utilize a shared workspace or “hotel” when working in the office.
Under the close supervision and direction of Assistant Chief Counsel of the Legal Division, the Honors Privacy Fellow provides legal and policy support in carrying out the functions of CalPrivacy's Legal Division. Duties include but are not limited to analyzing legal issues, routine legal research, and preparing drafts of legal documents, such as memos, reports, regulations, or legislative measures.
This position is Limited Term (12 months); it may become permanent, be extended up to 24 months, or be cancelled at any time.
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment. CalPrivacy does participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Desirable Qualifications
Strong interest in privacy and/or administrative law and policy as demonstrated by one or more of the following: academic coursework, research and publishing on privacy-related topics, or experience during or before law school working on privacy or administrative law matters.
Familiarity with the California Consumer Privacy Act and the Delete Act, and the work of the California Privacy Protection Agency.
Record of academic accomplishment. Candidates serving as federal judicial law clerks are encouraged to apply.
Proficient with modern workplace technology and digital tools.
Command of MS Office Suite and legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw Precision, LexisNexis).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced/high-stress situations.
Comfortable teleworking/working remotely.
