The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia seeks a Grants and Contracts Specialist or Grants and Contracts Administrator for pre-award activity. This position will report to the Administrative Director and work with a team of Administrative Personnel.

The Grants and Contracts Specialist/Administrator collaborates with PIs to ensure proposals are complete and submitted to the Office of Grants and Contracts in compliance with their policies. They monitor the websites for OSP, OGC and the Office of Research for updated information and work with the central offices and PIs to ensure proposal acceptance. The Specialist/Administrator partners with faculty on grant budget reviews, assist with budget modifications, JIT requests, Progress Reports, RPPR's, AMR's etc.

Jobs in this group are typically responsible for conducting and managing research activities across various disciplines. They design and implement studies, support research activities, analyze data, and contribute to advancing knowledge and innovation in their respective fields.

These roles are responsible for managing the funding process for research projects, including identifying grant opportunities, preparing proposals, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. Grants and contracts staff support researchers in securing and administering financial resources for their studies.

  • Candidate will be responsible for meeting all School of Medicine, Office of Grants and Contracts proposal deadlines.
  • Ensure proposals are accurate and the correct forms are used.
  • Candidate must know how to use eRA Commons, Proposal Central,. eBRAP,. SF424 forms, Huron, Workday, NSF, and other proposal websites.
  • Candidate will work with Administrative Director who will be able to submit proposals in times of heavy workloads.
  • Candidate will attend monthly Departmental Administrative meetings and the School of Medicine Research Administrators Meeting.

Anticipated Position Compensation: $45.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: At least three years of relevant experience required. Grants and Contracts Experience Preferred. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
