LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

The Graphic Design Internship serves as an opportunity to receive hands-on training in the Marketing Department. The Graphic Design Intern will assist with the creation and design of campaigns and special projects for the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium. This position will primarily focus on graphic design but may assist and complete work in the areas of public relations, special events, and other digital marketing.

TIME COMMITMENT:

This is a 2-month summer internship, working up to 40 hours per week. The schedule for this internship is primarily Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00pm, but it may occasionally require weekend or evening hours. Specific start and end dates may vary based upon individual availability and departmental needs.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Interns are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing.

Creates content for distribution through various Zoo & Aquarium communication channels.

60%

Assists in cataloguing and maintaining digital content library.

20%

Assists department with execution and coordination of various Zoo & Aquarium events.

20%

This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Some experience using Adobe Creative Cloud; specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and/or Indesign.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
- Can move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Assistance depending upon task.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
