Position Overview
An asphalt plant groundman (or laborer) ensures the safe, continuous operation of the facility through manual labor, heavy cleaning, and basic maintenance. They maintain the site by cleaning conveyor belts, shoveling asphalt, cleaning spills, and performing preventive maintenance on machinery in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Cleaning up spilled asphalt, sweeping, shoveling, and operating a skid steer to clear debris.
Greasing, oiling, and performing minor repairs on conveyor belts, crushers, and hot plant machinery.
Loading/unloading materials and assisting with the management of stockpiles or leftover mix.
Maintaining a clean job site to eliminate hazards and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Supporting the plant operator and aiding with daily production tasks.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Experience in construction or industrial environments is a plus.
Willingness to work long hours, nights, and weekends.
Proficiency with hand/power tools and potentially welding/torching experience.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift 50-90 pounds, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb on equipment.
Work Environment
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise).
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
