JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent or his assistant, the Grounds Worker performs maintenance and construction tasks on the golf course to maintain and improve the appearance and quality of the golf course. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide outstanding customer service to our internal and external guests by providing friendly, responsive, courteous and helpful service.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to district golf course, buildings and equipment.
- Perform mowing and trimming of turf areas with tractors and small mowers and all other aspects of turf maintenance.
- Install, maintain and repair general landscape improvements throughout the golf course.
- Maintain two-way communication regarding problems in the field.
- Operate all equipment needed to complete golf course and repair tasks.
- Perform all tasks in related trade fields.
- Submit and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Be proficient in operation of all golf course equipment and tasks.
- Must wear personal protective equipment for job function.
- Must follow, administer and implement Homewood-Flossmoor Park District policies and guidelines.
- Operate trucks, tractors, landscape equipment and small power tools as required.
- Plant, cultivate and prune trees and shrubs.
- Must adhere to safety practices associates with specific job-related tasks.
- Keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in clean and good operating condition.
- Assist in construction and maintenance of new and existing golf course areas and equipment.
- Perform in-house construction, maintenance, and repair tasks as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or his Assistant.
- Maintain a clean and orderly condition of areas surrounding buildings and in the golf course maintenance area.
- General indoor and outdoor building maintenance.
- Do general work around the shop as required.
- Water plant material.
- Remove all garbage, paper, leaves, refuse material, etc. from golf course.
- Conduct inspections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the Safety Manual.
- Other related job duties as assigned.
COGNITIVE SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must have the ability to read, write and organize materials.
- Ability to drive a vehicle, construction equipment or powered lawn equipment.
- Must be able to relate to other people in a professional manner.
JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A reasonable mechanical aptitude and interest in machinery and equipment used to maintain golf course.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Must be 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State of Illinois driver's license.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- May feel stress while working irregular and overtime hours during peak times.
- Must be able to get along with many different personalities.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Ability to carry 50 pounds for 25 yards.
- Will experience long periods of climbing, stooping, standing and reaching.
- Will be exposed to fumes, chemicals and insects.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Will be exposed to all weather conditions.
