POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper
REPORTS TO: Head Groundskeeper
JOB SUMMARY: As a contributor to the Aquarium’s mission and guest experience, the Groundskeeper is responsible for performing groundskeeping tasks as assigned to maintain the exterior grounds and fixtures in a clean, safe, appealing, and welcoming condition for staff and visitors. This position works collaboratively across departments, demonstrates professionalism and respect, and is committed to safety, stewardship of resources, and continuous improvement.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Perform routine and seasonal grounds maintenance tasks, including but not limited to mowing, pruning, planting, fertilizing, and watering landscaped areas.
2. Install, maintain, clean, and repair exterior fixtures and structures such as benches, signage, fences, and lighting.
3. Maintain, repair and install outdoor surfaces including walking paths, sidewalks, and parking lots to ensure safety and accessibility.
4. Operate hand tools and power equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers) safely and maintain them in clean, working conditions.
5. Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of equipment, PPE, and emergency procedures.
6. Partner with Environmental Health and Safety Manager to ensure adherence to state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines.
7. Execute departmental seasonal weather response responsibilities such as distributing deicer, shoveling walkways, and setting up signage
8. Collaborate with other departments and team members to support cross-functional initiatives and events.
9. Exhibit professionalism, respect, and inclusivity in all interactions with staff, visitors, volunteers, and community members.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission, safety, and well-being of the Aquarium.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYThis position has no supervisory responsibility.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Minimum levels)
High school equivalency required. Vocational training or certification in a related field is preferred. Minimum of one year of experience in landscaping and groundskeeping.
Current First Aid and CPR certification is desirable. Ability to obtain and hold valid Oregon Driver’s License required. Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and in a team environment.
