Maintains grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property by performing the following duties.

Experience Qualifications

  • Prior ground keeping or maintenance experience. Preferred


Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. (Required proficiency)


What you will do

  • Cuts lawns. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides. Rakes and bags leaves.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter. Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
  • Shovels snow from walks and driveways. Push snow with truck or tractor. Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
  • Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Waters lawn and shrubs.
  • Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment. Maintains and repairs lawn sprinkler system.
  • Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
  • Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks. Paints fences and outbuildings.
  • Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
