Group Counselor: Summer Camp

Wheeler Summer Camp’s goal is simple and clear; we are all about giving campers an opportunity to be active in an outdoor environment, explore new things, have fun, build confidence and character, while making long-lasting friendships.

Our Summer Camp programs, for children ages 3 to 15, feature a busy day full of fun camp activities for campers grouped by age. Campers who are curious to explore have a choice of our two-week-long Specialty Camps in athletics, arts, and enrichment directed by highly qualified organizations and our wonderful Wheeler faculty. Our Specialty Camps are full-day programs that include a half-day of Specialty Camp and a half-day of Traditional Camp. Swim lessons take place each day for campers in both programs. Wheeler summer will also offer a few specialized programs this summer that are full-day programs.

Wheeler Summer Camp is seeking energetic camp counselors to join our community. In this position, counselors will lead campers through a daily schedule of activities while making sure campers stay safe and have fun at camp. Campers range in age from 3-15 year olds.

Group Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, and empathy toward all campers
  • Maintain flexibility and adapt positively to schedule or activity changes
  • Arrive on time and prepared for each camp day
  • Follow all camp policies and procedures, including emergency protocols
  • Ensure camper safety at all times through head counts, active supervision, environmental awareness, and clear guidance
  • Engage positively with campers while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Escort and supervise camp groups to and from activity areas and special events
  • Respect camp equipment, supplies, and facilities
  • Actively participate in activities and at the pool by engaging with campers, supervising swim time, encouraging involvement, and maintaining pool safety
  • Report all illnesses, injuries, or concerns promptly to the Head Counselor and/or Health Supervisor
  • Attend and participate in all required camp and division meetings
  • Serve as a professional role model for campers of all ages
  • Provide basic health and safety support, including sunscreen and bug spray application and basic first aid

Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Camp Administration.

Qualifications:

A Counselor must be 18 years old unless they have completed the Counselor In Training program. No camp experience is necessary, but experience working with children is required (ie: babysitting, coaching, family helper etc.). The ideal candidate has excellent communication, problem solving skills and is adaptable.

Orientation: June 16-18, 2026

Camp hours: 8:15am-4:15 pm Monday through Friday with some exceptions

This is a seasonal position that is exempt from overtime and benefits.
