Responsibilities
- Reading blueprints: Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout, installation requirements, and the quantity of materials needed.
- Measuring and layout: Precisely measure and mark gypsum panels and the underlying wood or metal framework to ensure correct alignment and fit.
- Cutting and preparation: Use a variety of hand and power tools, such as saws and utility knives, to cut drywall panels to the required size and shape. This includes cutting precise openings for electrical outlets, vents, and fixtures.
- Installation: Fasten panels securely to the interior framework of walls and ceilings using screws or nails.
- Finishing: Apply joint compound ("mud") and tape to seams and joints to create a smooth, seamless surface. Sand all joints and depressions to prepare the surface for painting or wallpaper.
- Repairs: Repair damaged or deteriorated drywall by cutting out and replacing sections, then patching and smoothing to match the surrounding surface.
- Safety and site management: Adhere to all company and worksite safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure the work area is clean and organized by properly storing materials and disposing of waste.
- Collaboration: Work and communicate effectively with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure all systems are properly integrated within the walls.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a drywall or gypsum board installer is often preferred.
- Knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with construction tools, including saws, drills, and sanders.
- The ability to read and understand blueprints and technical instructions.

- Physical stamina: The job is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and maneuver heavy boards and work overhead for extended periods.
