Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Habitability Attorney specializing in tenant rights to join our legal team. The successful candidate will advocate for tenants facing housing issues, ensuring their rights are protected under relevant laws and regulations. This role involves providing legal counsel, conducting research, and representing clients in various legal proceedings related to landlord-tenant disputes, habitability concerns, and housing law compliance. The attorney will work in a dynamic law office environment, utilizing their expertise to promote fair housing practices and uphold tenants’ rights.

Duties

  • Provide legal advice and representation to tenants regarding habitability issues and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategies.
  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence with clear and precise language.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreements between tenants and landlords to resolve disputes amicably.
  • Advocate for clients in court proceedings, hearings, and mediations related to housing law violations.
  • Stay informed on current laws, regulations, and policies affecting tenant rights and habitability standards, including tribal law & regulations where applicable.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals to develop effective strategies for client cases involving environmental law, family law, or other relevant areas when intersecting with tenant issues.
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation in accordance with legal administrative standards.
  • Educate tenants about their rights and available legal remedies through outreach or community engagement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; admission to the state bar is required.
  • Proven experience or strong interest in landlord-tenant law, habitability law, or related fields such as environmental law or family law.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms including Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear, persuasive legal documents.
  • Strong negotiation skills to facilitate settlements between parties effectively.
  • Familiarity with litigation procedures and courtroom procedures related to housing disputes.
  • Experience with legal research, case analysis, and preparing litigation strategies.
  • Ability to work independently within a law office setting while collaborating as part of a team.
  • Legal administrative experience is preferred but not mandatory; strong organizational skills are essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
