Hazardous Material Waste Specialist

Job Description:


  • SUMMARY:

  • The Hazardous Material Waste Specialist supports the LRC contract by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations across all facilities, hazardous materials, and waste management operations. This role is responsible for maintaining hazardous waste documentation, conducting inspections of facilities and accumulation areas, managing employee environmental training, and serving as the liaison to government entities to implement and uphold current environmental standards.


  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs a variety of warehousing duties which require an understanding of the establishment's storage plan, orders, receives stores, maintains and issues supplies and equipment to support daily operations.
    • Determines condition of material and equipment and arranges disposal when necessary.
    • Maintains accountability of government materials assigned to the directorate/department in accordance with established requirements.
    • Maintains files in accordance with Army Records Information Management System
    • Operates COTS tracking system for accountability and asset visibility requirements.
    • Assists in resolving inventory and/or system problems and generates reports as directed.
    • Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.
    • Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards, etc.
    • Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL's) associated with assigned functional work areas / process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals.
    • Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.
    • Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.
    • Adhere to Company quality, safety, and environmental standards.

    • This position supports the DOD on a federal installation and the candidate must be available to work at the assigned physical location during business hours.

    • 6:00AM-3:00PM
    • 8:00AM-5:00PM

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

General Description of Responsibilities:

  • On a monthly and quarterly basis, serve as the LRC liaison to specified government entities to ensure the contract is in compliance with current environmental regulations. Obtain, provide, and put into effect new standards as required.
  • Ensure all 9 LRC facilities are ready for environmental inspections on a daily basis. This includes daily physical inspections of facilities to ensure they are maintained to regulation standards and are clean and secure. Record and maintain all incorrect findings, report corrected findings and review any documents or labels on site; ensuring they are current. Update and provide training to employees on any new regulation changes.
  • Collect, record, and maintain all hazardous waste documents to ensure compliance with ADEM, EPA, and specific government inspectors. These include incoming, depleted, and all materials
  • maintained throughout the maintenance facility.
  • Obtaining and/or providing RCRA/ Hazardous Training for required employees on the contract and maintaining the training records and job descriptions on file for inspection purposes.
  • Process, label, and perform inventory through the EESOH system on an estimated 2,500 +/ hazardous materials per month. This includes both new and depleted products.
  • Maintain the 90-day site for the contract. Perform weekly inspections of the 90-day site and maintain all findings and records of completion.
  • Must be trained and versed with ESSOH-MIS duties to include periodic inspections of ESSOH-MIS labels for several tenants on the contract.
  • Review and provide missing SOS Sheets for all material being used or stored in facilities.
  • Prepare and provide 1348-1A and Hazardous Waste Stream form to Garrison Environmental for turn in procedures.
  • Ensuring all waste has proper wording, stenciling, labeling and DOT forms prepared and documented for turn in procedures.
  • Monitor all 6 Satellite Accumulation Areas for the LRC, to make sure they are clean, without leaks or spills and are in compliance at all times based on ADEM, EPA, and government regulations, until they are transferred to our 90-day site for lab analysis.
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • RCRA- Hazwaste storage - 90-day training

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, comprehend and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails, and correspondence from inside the organization as well as from external sources. Ability to effectively respond, communicate and present information to customers, internal and external, clients and other employees in the organization. Ability to interpret instructions and information and explain to others in the performance of this job in English.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling material. Must have the ability to work indoors or outdoors in bad weather. Handle equipment/supplies weighing 30 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance. Must possess visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone. Wearing safety equipment (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS:

This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions of the role require the employee to perform duties on-site. May be exposed to inclement/extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to high, depending on location. Must be able to work in fast paced, multi-task environment. If applicable work 10(+) hours per day Will require having flexed hours to accommodate for mission requirements to include weekends and Holidays. Overtime may be required.

  • Background & Drug Screening: Employment requires passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug and alcohol testing may also occur without prior notice.
  • Timesheets: Record your actual work hours daily and ensure your entries are accurate and timely to support smooth operations.
  • Dress & Punctuality: Arrive on time and dress appropriately for your shift.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS:

All employees are required to undergo an initial background investigation as a condition of employment. Additionally, employees may be subject to subsequent background investigations if circumstances warrant, such as the emergence of a need, an issue, or probable cause.


Employees assigned to work on federal installations or projects must also comply with government-mandated background investigations, which are conducted independently of the company's investigations. Employment and continued assignment to federal installations are contingent upon successfully meeting and maintaining these requirements.
