The Head Barista is responsible for leading the barista team, ensuring exceptional coffee quality, and delivering outstanding customer service. This role combines hands-on coffee preparation with staff training, quality control, and day-to-day operations at the coffee bar.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee Quality & Preparation

  • Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso drinks, and specialty beverages
  • Maintain consistency in recipes, presentation, and taste
  • Calibrate grinders and espresso machines regularly
  • Monitor bean freshness, brewing methods, and extraction standards

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead, motivate, and support barista staff during shifts
  • Train new and existing staff on coffee preparation, equipment use, and service standards
  • Schedule shifts and ensure adequate coverage
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and performance support

Customer Experience

  • Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient service
  • Handle customer feedback, concerns, and complaints effectively
  • Build relationships with regular customers and promote brand loyalty

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee opening and closing procedures
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar
  • Monitor inventory, place orders, and reduce waste
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards

Menu & Business Support

  • Assist with drink menu development and seasonal offerings
  • Support promotions, upselling, and product knowledge
  • Track sales trends and contribute ideas for improvement

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Barista; leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of coffee brewing methods and espresso machines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialty coffee certification (e.g., SCA)
  • Experience with latte art and advanced brewing techniques
  • Inventory or ordering experience
