Head Nurse

Background: Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) runs one of the largest not-for-profit private healthcare systems in the country, with a focus on the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh. Its core focus includes initiatives for hard-to-reach populations through services like outreach clinics, training of community midwives to provide low-cost health services in remote areas, screening for non-communicable diseases, and digital health solutions.

Position Summary: Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan is looking for a competent Head Nurse base at Aga Khan Hospital, Gilgit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures implementation of:
  • Nursing quality assurance and customer satisfaction
  • Nursing policies and procedures.
  • Service excellence
  • Infection control protocols
• Supervise new staff for their orientation and provide mentorship to nurses by being role models.
• Involve in recruitment of nurses in coordination with RHR
• Ensure availability and functioning of equipment and supplies in the clinical unit.
• Prepare annual plans with Manager Nursing and Midwifery and reviews timely and make changes
• Plan, organize and conduct unit-based meetings and training for nursing staff.
• Participate in planning and preparing annual budget for clinical units.
• Prepare reports on time and forward them to the concerned department
• Make daily rounds with staff and clinicians to monitor the quality of patient care
• Ensure due care is provided to the patients and documented as per policy.
• Assign nursing staff according to patient care needs, nursing competency and staff development.
• Coordinate with clinicians for patient care, treatment regimens to ensure safety and quality.
• Ensure effective and efficient staffing and scheduling to provide 24hrs coverage to the unit.
• Monitor inventory of the relevant areas to ensure availability and effective utilization of the resources
• Consult with Manager Nursing and Midwifery for unit management affairs.
• Collaborate with other departments, and CHCs to maintain smooth working relationships.
• Maintain cleanliness and Housekeeping of respective units in coordination with relevant department
• Assist Manager Nursing and Midwifery for nursing and midwifery development activities.
• Act as active member of the management team to ensure achievement of set targets
• Perform any other assignment by unit in charge/Manager Nursing and Midwifery.

Qualifications & Experience:

• BScN or MScN
• 2 to 3 years as AHN or supervisor of the shift
• Fluent in speaking English
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have learning attitude toward continues improvement
• Must have ability to lead and manage people (leadership abilities)
• I/V cannulation Certification & Medication Administration.
• Trained in service excellence
• Certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP
• Competent in all nursing skills
