Overview
The Host is the first point of contact for our guests, responsible for creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, efficiently managing seating and reservations, and ensuring a smooth start to every dining experience. This role requires excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to support the entire front-of-house team. Prior experience in food service, hospitality, or restaurant settings is preferred.
Duties
- Greeting guests warmly and professionally as they arrive.
- Manage reservations, waitlists, and provide accurate wait times.
- Escort guests to their tables, provide menus, and introduce them to their server.
- Handle guest inquiries and address any immediate concerns or complaints.
- Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
- Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
- Engaging with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
- Answering phone calls, taking verbal reservations and answering questions.
- A knowledge of the menu.
- Communicate effectively with servers, bussers, and kitchen staff about guest needs and table statuses.
- Assist fellow team members during busy periods with tasks such as setting tables or running food.
- Providing great customer service.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure with all restaurant staff.
- Does high-quality work while unsupervised.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Calm and pleasant demeanor.
- Proficiency with table management systems or reservation software.
- Physical stamina to stand and move around for extended periods.
- Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food when necessary.
- Able to handle money accurately and operate a point-of-sale system.
- Able to work in a busy restaurant environment.
