Role Purpose

In this role, you’ll ensure high-quality English teaching and impactful learning experiences that inspire and engage learners. You’ll also contribute to the British Council’s broader mission of building cultural connections and promoting mutual understanding through education.

Main Accountabilities:

Teaching Delivery
Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons tailored to diverse learner needs and styles. Monitor student progress, provide regular feedback, and encourage learner autonomy to support individual growth throughout the course.

Team Contribution & Development
Collaborate with colleagues to improve courses, materials, and services. Complete teaching-related admin tasks to standard, engage in ongoing professional development, and contribute to maintaining the British Council’s reputation for excellence in ELT.

Customer Experience & Safeguarding
Enhance students’ understanding of contemporary UK culture and support marketing efforts to deliver a positive customer experience. Uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health and safety standards to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all.

Qualifications & Experience

Essentials:

  • Full Mastery of English across 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 (IELTS Academic Paper Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections).
  • Undergraduate Degree.
  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL, or equivalent as recognised by the British Council.
  • 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA or Trinity cert TESOL experience
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
  • Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)

And one or more of the following

  • Young learners aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 11 to 13 (400+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 14 to 17 (400+ hours)

Desirables:

  • Recognised YL teaching qualification, e.g. TYLEC or YL extension to CELTA
