Position Summary

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout Share Medical Center. This role supports the overall patient experience by ensuring patient rooms, public areas, and clinical spaces meet high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention. The Housekeeper plays an important role in the hospital team by helping maintain a clean environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. This position contributes to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient hospital operations through consistent environmental services practices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS Certification (Must obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, and public areas and all high touch surfaces according to hospital cleaning and infection control standards
  • Perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms following patient discharge to prepare rooms for new occupant. When cleaning isolation rooms follow isolation precautions.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, walls, and floors to maintain sanitary conditions
  • Dust furniture, equipment, vents, window sills, door frames, and other surfaces
  • Sweep, mop, buff, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate cleaning solutions and operate mechanical cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers, polishers, and vacuum. Shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture as needed.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of trash, waste materials, and biohazard waste in accordance with hospital procedures
  • Sort, process, and transport soiled and clean linens according to hospital linen handling procedures and assist with laundry operations
  • Move furniture, beds, and other equipment as necessary to properly clean assigned areas and monitor for maintenance or safety concerns and report issues promptly
  • Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation standards, including utilization of SQSS (Strategic Quality Support System) for compliance tracking.
  • Adhere to all hospital policy and procedure, follow HIPAA guidelines, available for duty in the event of a disaster, completes all required educational training and performs other job duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and reaching overhead
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies, equipment, or linen weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull equipment, carts, beds, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use both hands for grasping, gripping, and fine motor tasks
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read labels, safety information, and written instructions
  • Adequate hearing to respond to alarms, equipment signals, telephone communication, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, supervisors, patients, and visitors

Potential Hazards

  • Exposure to hospital-related hazards including blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, x-ray/electromagnetic energy, electric shock, and chemicals. Employees must adhere to all hospital safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
