Position Overview
The HR Specialist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources department and contributes to program success by assisting with onboarding, compliance, documentation, and payroll. This role ensures that all HR processes align with agency policies, licensing standards, and confidentiality requirements. The HR Specialist may also provide limited paraprofessional (PP) support to a small number of clients, maintaining balanced engagement between administrative and direct-service responsibilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Duties
- Manage new hire onboarding, including sending employment paperwork and verifying I-9 forms and identification documents.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee and contractor records in the HR database.
- Conduct background checks, drug screenings, and credential verifications.
- Monitor and track employee document expirations, ensuring timely renewals.
- Support payroll processing and verify time and documentation accuracy.
- Address HR-related inquiries and ensure compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
- Participate in onboarding sessions to explain HR policies and expectations.
- Attend bi-weekly all-staff meetings and weekly management meetings.
Compliance & Administrative Support
- Ensure personnel files remain accurate, complete, and compliant with DBHDD and agency requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership to resolve compliance issues related to staff documentation.
- Support HR audits and prepare reports as needed.
- Maintain awareness of employment law updates and HR best practices.
Paraprofessional Duties (Limited Caseload)
- Provide paraprofessional support services to assigned clients (up to 6).
- Document all services in the EHR system accurately and promptly.
- Support client goals in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all client interactions.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Social Services (preferred).
- 1–3 years of HR, administrative, or compliance experience; behavioral health experience a plus.
- Familiarity with HR and personnel compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR/EHR platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
