HR/Accounting Coordinator

JOB LOCATION:
Dayton Society of Natural History, Dayton, OH

WORK HOURS: Varies – 20 to 30 hours per week

REPORTS TO: CFO

Non-Exempt: $16.00 to $20.00 per hour based on experience and education

DATE: 3/10/2026


SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
This position is responsible for Human Resources and assisting in Accounting/Finance administration within the Administration Department of the Dayton Society of Natural History. The ideal candidate will have experience in HR and Finance and will support the Chief Financial Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Benefits Administration for Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, COBRA, Section 125 Plan, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Retirement Plan, including auditing information
  • Payroll and reporting maintenance
  • Program Administration for Workers’ Compensation, Unemployment reporting, and Short-Term Disability program
  • New Hire intake, including requesting background checks
  • Personnel handbook maintenance
  • Assistance with employee relations issues
  • Maintenance of job descriptions files
  • Assists executive management in the annual employee reviews, and preparation and administration of the organization’s wage and salary compensation program
  • Coordinates job posting, hiring, retention, termination, and human relations
  • Conducts new hire orientation and exit interviews
  • Works directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters
  • Recommends, evaluates, and participates in training and staff development for the organization
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer and President & CEO, as needed

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and Payroll Software knowledge.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are flexible within Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is considered an excellent place for a candidate to begin their journey in the field of museums and/or HR.


Preferred Education and Experience:
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential; Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Payroll Specialist (CPS) a plus.
