Responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring effective Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) systems to ensure safe and compliant construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee HSE programs in line with project requirements, company policies, and applicable local regulations.
- Ensure effective application of safety management systems, including risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and permit-to-work procedures.
- Carry out regular site safety inspections, internal HSE audits, and toolbox talks to promote and sustain a strong safety culture.
- Identify, assess, and control construction-related hazards such as excavation, working at height, lifting operations, scaffolding, and formwork.
- Monitor and enforce HSE compliance among subcontractors, supervisors, and site personnel to maintain safe working practices.
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring reports are completed and actions are closed out.
- Maintain and update HSE documentation including incident records, safety statistics, inspection reports, and training registers.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to integrate HSE requirements into daily operations.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and verify adequate placement of safety signage and warning notices.
- Support emergency preparedness planning, conduct drills, and assist with environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 7 years of experience in an HSE Engineer or Safety Officer role within construction or building projects.
- Mandatory professional HSE certification such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent internationally recognized qualification.
- Strong knowledge of local HSE legislation, international safety standards, and construction industry best practices.
- Proven experience in HSE documentation control, audits, and coordination with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
